Recipe Brief Description: This is such a simple, humble dish, but it is undoubtedly a dish that the entire race of Assamese is prepared by ripe papaya.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Ripe Papaya - 1 number (cut into small and thin pieces)
  • Green chili - 2 number (slit)
  • Soda - 3/4 tbsp
  • Paas puron - 1/2 tbsp
  • Bay leaf - 1 number
  • Red chili - 1 number (halved)
  • Mustard oil - 3 tbsp

    Cooking Time: 20 minutes

    Preparation Method:
  • Heat the 2 tbsp of mustard oil in a pan and add the paas puron, bay leaf and red chili halves.
  • When the seeds splutter, add the papaya, green chilies, salt and soda. Stir well, reduce the heat to low, cover and cook for about 10-12 minutes or till the papaya slices soften and lose their shape. Keep stirring in between.
  • Raise the heat and stir so that the excess water, if any, evaporates.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the remaining 1 tbsp of mustard oil.
  • Serve hot with some plain rice and dal.
