Arhar Dal With Green Mango

Recipe Brief Description : Adhar dal with green mango is made with the combination of arhar dal and raw green mango. It gives great taste with plain rice and generally preferred in summer season.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Arhar dal/Pigeon beans – 1 cup
  • Raw Mango – 1 cup (cut into 1 inch cubes)
  • Butter /Ghee /Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Asafoetida/Hing – 1 pinch
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - 1-2 number
  • Dry Red chili - 1 number
  • Sugar - 1 tbsp
  • Garam masla - 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric - 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Green chilies - 2-3 numbers
  • Ginger - 1 tbsp (grated)
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp (chopped)

    Cooking Time: 30 minutes

    Preparation Method:
  • Wash arhar dal and soak it in 3 cup of water for 30 minutes before cooking. After 30 minutes drain water.
  • Heat 2 cup of water in a pan add dal, turmeric, raw mango, sugar, garam masala and salt to taste. Cook for 25 minutes until lentils are mushy and mango is blended well with dal. The consistency of the dal should be thick.
  • In separate pan heat oil, add mustard seeds. When they sputter add hing, curry leaves, green chilies, dry red chili and grated ginger.
  • Reduce the heat and when the ginger gets slightly fried, pour the mixture over the cooked lentils and stir well and cook for another 10-15minutes and garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with boiled plain rice.
