Ginger Rasam

Recipe Brief Description : South Indian soup usually serve with rice and its main ingredients are tomatoes, ginger and green gram.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Jaggery – 1 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves – 3 tbsp (chopped)
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - 1 numbers
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 tbsp
  • Ghee/oil - 2 tbsp
  • Rasam powder - 2 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tbsp
  • Tamarind - 1 lemon size
  • Ginger - 3 sliced in long
  • Green chillies - 3 numbers
  • Hing – 1 pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • Tomato - 3 numbers
  • Turmeric powder - 1 pinch
  • Green gram - 1 cup (soft cooked and mashed)

    Cooking Time: 20 minutes

    Preparation Method:
  • Soak tamarind in 1 cup water for 15mins and squeeze the tamarind water. Keep aside.
  • Boil the tomato in 3 cup of water for 5mins. Cool the water and remove peel and mash tomatoes.
  • In a large pan, add 1 tbsp ghee and add ginger, green chilli, curry leaves. Add tomato, tamarind juice, salt, turmeric powder, hing and rasam powder let it boil for 10mins.
  • Now, add boiled dur dal, jaggery and cook for 5mins.
  • Turn off heat and add coriander leaves.
  • In separate pan heat 1 tbsp oil add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and red chilli and allow spluttering. Mix in with rasam and stir.
