Recipe Brief Description : South Indian steamed rice cake. A very popular break fast made out of with rice, black gram and methi seeds. Generally eaten with sambar or chutney.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Rice - 2 cup
  • Urdal dal or black gram - 1/2 cup
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1 tbsp

    Cooking Time: 20 minutes

    Preparation Method:
  • Soak rice, urdal dal and methi in a separate bowl for 4-5 hours.
  • After soaking first grind urdal dal it should be ground to a very fine paste. Rice can be ground coarsely.
  • Then mix all the pastes very well and add salt to taste. Keep over night to get ferment.
  • Next day morning, mix in cooking soda and stir well.
  • Now, pour this batter into a greased idli plate and steam in a pressure cooker for 10mins. Serve with chutney or samber.
