Recipe Brief Description: Kalmai Vadas are crispy and delicious appetizer. It is prepared with lentil and potatoes. It is very famous snacks in North India.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Chana dal - 1/2 cup
  • Split green gram - 1/4 cup
  • Potato - 2 number (boiled and mashed)
  • Green chili - 2 number (finely chopped)
  • Ginger - 1 tbsp (chopped)
  • Black pepper - 3/4 tbsp
  • Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp (crushed)
  • Asafetida - 1 pinch
  • Cilantro - 2 tbsp (chopped)
  • Oil for deep fry
  • Salt to taste

    Cooking Time: 20 minutes

    Preparation Method:
  • Wash and soak chana dal and moong dal with four cups of water for at least four hours or more.
  • Blend dal coarsely, if need add water about 2-3 tbsp.
  • Now mix in all the ingredients together this will make soft and crumbly dough.
  • Divide the dough into 7-8 equal parts and make them into patties.
  • Heat oil in a pan for deep frying over medium high heat.
  • Kalmi Vadas are double fried. Fry the patties until they are golden brown.
  • Take them out over paper towel and let them cool to the room temperature, now cut patties into four pieces.
  • Fry them again over medium high heat till they are golden brown. Take them out over paper towel. Kalmi vadas are ready to serve.
