Recipe Brief Description : Modak is very famous in India; it is prepared during Ganesh Chaturthi. Modak is a sweet dumpling stuffed with a filling of coconut and sugar. It is prepared with Rice flour (steamed) too.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Maida flour – 250 grams
  • Salt a pinch
  • Cooking oil (deep fry)
  • Coconut – 1 cup (grated)
  • Gasagase / Poppy seeds – 2 tbsp
  • Sugar – ½ cup
  • Cardomom / yelakki powder – 1 tbsp
  • Ghee – 2-3 tbsp
  • Cashews and Raisins handful

    Cooking Time: 25 minutes

    Preparation Method:
  • Take a bowl add the maida flour and salt. Mix it well and add enough of water till the dough is completely immersed.
  • For stuffing / filling – take a pan add ghee, cashews, raisins, fry till light brown, add gasagase, coconut and sugar mix well on a medium heat and cook stirring all the time. Remove off the heat once it is totally dry.
  • Make small balls out of the dough.
  • Roll out of the dough to a small shape and in the centre place add the stuffing / filling in the middle.
  • Now join the open edges together and give it a shape like a whole garlic.
  • Heat a pan/kadai add oil for deep fry, place the content (modak) into the oil and fry till golden brown.
    Delicious modak is ready to eat.
