Recipe Ingredients

  • Puffed rice – 3 cup
  • Aval Pori - 2 cup
  • Jaggery - 3/4 cup
  • Cardamom powder - 1 tbsp
  • Sliced coconut bits - 4 tbsp
  • Dry ginger powder - 3/4 tbsp
  • Ghee or clarified butter - 2 tbsp

    Cooking Time: 20 minutes

    Preparation Method:
  • Heat one cup of jaggery in a pan along with ¼ cup water. Once jaggery melts and starts boiling filter it, to remove dirt. Add the filtered jaggery syrup back to the pan and boil over medium heat.
  • Heat ghee in a pan and fry the grated coconut.
  • Add half of grated coconut in a wide bowl along with pori and mix well. Keep a bowl of water next to the stove.
  • After the syrup starts thickening and vigorously boiling, add a couple of drops to the bowl with water. Add half of the cardamom powder and ½ tbsp dry ginger powder to the syrup.
  • Slowly pour the syrup over the pori and mix well. Grease your palms with ghee and make balls when it hot. Now pori urundai is ready.
