Recipe Brief Description : Bele obbattu is one of South Indian favorite traditional sweets. This is one of the sweets which is considered difficult to prepare, because it required perfection.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Super fine Sooji rava – 1 cup
  • Maida - 1/4 cup
  • Ghee - 3 tbsp
  • Turmeric - 1 pinch
  • Cardamom powder - 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt - 1/2 tbsp
  • Oil - 1/4 cup
  • Toor Dal - 1/2 cup
  • Jaggery - 1/2 cup (crushed)
  • Coconut - 1/4 cup (grated)

    Cooking Time: 30 minutes

    Preparation Method:
  • Wash toor dal well and pressure cook with a pinch of turmeric and just enough water to cover the dal. (Make sure you add only little water for pressure cooking)
  • Now, take a container and mix together the chiroti rava, maida and a pinch of turmeric with a little salt.
  • Now sprinkling a little water at a time, mix it into a firm but not hard dough Knead well and pour in half the oil on the dough, cover and set aside at least for 2 hours.The dough should not be used immediately .
  • Once the cooker cools down, drain the dal of remaining water for this add jaggery, coconut and cardamoms. Grind to a paste and roast this paste lightly.
  • Make small balls dough. Make each ball into a cup and keep a small ball of toor dal, jaggery, coconut paste in the middle and close all the sides. Pat to a chapathi like round on a greased plain leaf or plastic sheet.
  • Heat a tava, and fry this holige on both sides and add ghee/ oil around and serve hot.
