Recipe Brief Description : Dal flavored with roasted and powdered peppercorns, cumin seeds and red chilies.

Recipe Ingredients

  • Split pigeon pea – 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder – 1/4 tbsp
  • Green chilies - 2-3 numbers (chopped)
  • Red chilies – 2-3 numbers
  • Black peppercorns – 1/2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tbsp
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - 8-10 number
  • Tamarind pulp - 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

    Cooking Time: 20 minutes

    Preparation Method:
  • Cook toor dal with turmeric powder, salt and green chilies till soft.
  • Dry roast black peppercorns, red chilies and cumin seeds till fragrant. Transfer into a mixer jar and grind into a coarse powder.
  • Heat oil in a non stick pan. Add curry leaves, spice powder, tamarind pulp and stir for few second. Add the cooked dal with 1 cup of water, salt and mix well.
  • When the kadhi comes to a boil, transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
