Recipe Main Ingredient: Pulse/Toor dal
Recipe Brief Description : Varan is Maharastrian dal made from lentils with some seasoning. Varan is usually made from Toor dal.
Toor dal/Pulse – 1 cup
Green chilies - 2 number (chopped)
Turmeric powder - 1 tbsp
Ghee/Butter - 2 tbsp
Sugar/Jaggery - 1/2 tbsp
Asafetida - 1 pinch
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tbsp
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves - 2 tbsp (chopped)
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
In a pan add water, Toor dal with salt, sugar or jaggery, hing, green chillies and turmeric powder. Boil until cooked well.
Heat ghee/butter in a pan over medium heat, add mustard seeds when it start spluttering switch off the flame. Carefully, pour the ghee over dal and cook for another few minutes and sprinkle with chopped cilantro and serve with boiled rice.
